What the kitchen means to me?
A kitchen to me means family, health, and communication. It is where the family gathers to cook together, whether or not each participate in the actual act, as well as talk about everything going on in their lives. I grew up always having the family together for at least 2 meals of the day (breakfast and dinner). My parents always took turns cooking to make sure their growing family was fed, and coming from European heritage, eating was important! This is also a significant piece to living a healthy lifestyle. I was raised on eating whole foods and a balanced diet so having a great space to create a healthy meal for yourself or your family is essential as well as makes it more enjoyable. It is the first room I look at in a home and it is the foundation of the home to me. It is the room where the day begins and ends. It is the most popular room where people hang out and enjoy everything it has to offer.
I grew up in the Okanagan until I moved to Victoria, BC to pursue an accounting degree at Camosun College. This led to going even further and obtaining my Chartered Accountant designation (CPA) in 2011. I worked in public practice as a co-op student and post grad, and I knew almost right away that I wanted to work in the industry and pursue the controller/CFO path. During my post public practice career, I have worked in many industries including textile and bast fiber manufacturing, oil and gas services, and transportation in Victoria, BC and Calgary, AB. After being away from the Okanagan for 15 years, I decided it was time to move back. I am thrilled to be living back in the Okanagan where I am close to my family, the water, and the amazing lifestyle this area brings. My passions outside of work include staying active through weight lifting, golfing, and really anything outdoors. I am a lifetime learner and the subjects I focus on are health and wellness, self-development, cryptocurrencies, and spirituality.
